My New Year’s Promise

When the New Year rocks around, everyone is keen to make plans for the best year ever. New Year’s resolutions are set, diets are started and people want to become the best version of themselves.

Let’s face it most New Year’s Resolutions are lucky to last until the end of January.

We have all been there. We think we are going to lose 10 kilograms, join a gym, start the Keto diet, see our friends more often, get a promotion and finish that spring cleaning we keep putting off. Then we wake upon New Year ’s Day hungover tired and we forget what we wanted the day before.

This year I am not setting a resolution I am set to fail.

No New Year’s resolution, no new fad diet, for the first time ever I just want to be me. For me, I struggle with the fact I have a people pleasing nature. I hate to upset people so I try and be what they want me to be. Over time I have found that I have lost myself. I have lost who I am and what I stand for.

But what I have learnt early in my journey is that it is okay for people not to like me. I can’t please everyone. I am so early in my road to recovering who I am that I don’t want to focus on anything but that. So as the New Year rocks around, I am not making a resolution.

I am making a promise to myself.

I promise to speak up and stand up for myself. I promise to put my health, emotionally and physically, first. I promise to stay true to my values. I promise to make mistakes but I promise to learn from them. I promise to try and not let others opinions of me rule my life.

I promise to be wholeheartedly me.

I know it’s not going to be easy. I know it is going to take a lot of hard work but I believe I am worth it.

I hope to anyone who reads this that you accept yourself. It’s not an easy thing to do but I hope you too promise to just be you, warts and all. Goodbye 2018, you have been one hell of a ride!

A note from MJ

As the day sets and we head into 2019, I wish you all a Happy New Year! Whether you are celebrating with friends, family or you are celebrating alone. Please take a moment to thank yourself for being you. I know you may not all of you may like yourself right now but you are uniquely you and that is amazing!

HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
